New Zealand has a warm relationship with Italy. The role played by New Zealand in the liberation of Italy during the Second World War strengthened mutual ties and awareness. New Zealand Embassy in Rome was founded in 1966, but relations between the two governments began around 1948 when Italy set up a consulate in NZ. Currently, there is the Italian Embassy in Wellington:
