DECEMBER 2002: VISIT OF THE COSTA SMERALDA YACHT CLUB IN NEW ZEALAND

The Costa Smeralda Yacht Club is visiting New Zealand on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of Italy’s first appearance in the America’s Cup in 1983 with the yacht “Azzurra”. The team was organied by Cino Ricci. Mauro Pelaschier was at the helm and Tiziano Nava tactician.

Azzurra finished in the semi finals of the Louis Vuitton Cup placing third in the classification but the event resulted in the sail boom breaking in Italy. The importance of Azzurra’s participation that year lies in the fact also that 1983 was precisely the year in which for the first time the trophy was taken away by an Australian from the Americans who had held on to it strenuously for 132 years.

On 6 December a Reception in honour of the Club was held on board the Amerigo Vespucci and on 11 December a Cocktail party was offered in Wellington at the Residence of the Italian Ambassador. Both receptions saw the presence of some of the staff members of the Club among whom Comandante Gianfranco Alberini. Also present was the architect Andrea Vallicelli, designer of Azzurra ’83 and the helmsman of Azzurra Mr. Mauro Pelaschier. Mr John Bertrand, skipper of Australia II, the yacht that won the 1983 edition of the America’s Cup, also attended. Other guests, political, diplomatic and press, included the New Zealand Minister of Defence, Hon. Mark Burton, Damien O’Connor, Associate Minister for Agriculture, Rural Affairs, Immigration and the New Zealand Ambassador to Rome, Peter Bennett.

DICEMBRE 2002: VISITA DELLO YACHT CLUB COSTA SMERALDA IN NUOVA ZELANDA

Lo Yacht Club Costa Smeralda e' venuto in visita in Nuova Zelanda in occasione del ventennale del debutto dell'Italia in Coppa America nel 1983 con l'imbarcazione italiana "Azzurra". L'equipaggio venne organizzato da Cino Ricci. Mauro Pelaschier era al timone e Tiziano Nava alla tattica.

Azzurra si fermo' alle semifinali della Louis Vuitton Cup piazzandosi terza in classifica ma l’evento fece scoppiare il boom della vela in Italia. L’importanza della partecipazione di Azzura proprio in quell’anno risiede anche nel fatto che il 1983 fu proprio l’anno in cui per la prima volta l’ambito trofeo venne strappato, per opera di un australiano, dalle mani degli americani che lo avevano tenuto stretto per 132 anni.

Il giorno 6 dicembre e' stato offerto in onore del Club un ricevimento sulla Nave Amerigo Vespucci e l'11 dicembre e' stato offerto un Cocktail a Wellington nella Residenza dell'Ambasciatore d'Italia. Entrambi i ricevimenti hanno fatto registrare la presenza di alcuni componenti dello staff del Club tra i quali il Comandante Gianfranco Alberini. Presente anche l’Architetto Andrea Vallicelli, progettista di Azzurra ’83 ed il timoniere di Azzurra Sig. Mauro Pellaschier. Ospite anche il Sig. John Bertrand, skipper di Australia II, la barca che vinse l’edizione del 1983 della Coppa America. Presenza inoltre del mondo politico, diplomatico e della stampa, tra cui il Ministro della Difesa neozelandese Hon Mark Burton, Damien O’Connor, Ministro Associato per Agricoltura, Affari Rurali, Immigrazione e l’Ambasciatore neozelandese in Italia Peter Bennett.

9 DECEMBER 2002: PROMOTIONAL TRADE-ECONOMIC EVENT ON BOARD THE “AMERIGO VESPUCCI”

This Embassy, with the logistics support of the Italian Navy, organised a promotional trade-economic event on 9 December on board the “Amerigo Vespucci”.

150 guests including entrepreneurs and State Agencies including Trade New Zealand, Industry New Zealand, Investment New Zealand, New Zealand Trade Associations and representatives of the Italian and local media, attended the Reception. The Reception was introduced by The Ambassador of Italy Roberto Palmieri, by the Ambassador of New Zealand to Rome Peter Bennett.  

The large participation at the event showed the high interest in Made in Italy and the real potential for further growth in trade and eventual Italian investments in New Zealand.

9 DICEMBRE 2002: EVENTO PROMOZIONALE ECONOMICO-COMMERCIALE A BORDO DELL’”AMERIGO VESPUCCI”

Questa Ambasciata, con il supporto logistico della Marina Militare Italiana, ha organizzato lo scorso 9 dicembre un evento di promozione economico-commerciale a bordo dell’”Amerigo Vespucci”.

Al ricevimento hanno preso parte circa 150 ospiti fra imprenditori ed enti istituzionali fra i quali Trade New Zealand, Industry New Zealand, Investment New Zealand, Associazioni di Categoria neozelandesi e rappresentanti della stampa locale e italiana.

Il ricevimento e’ stato introdotto dall’Ambasciatore italiano Roberto Palmieri, dall’Ambasciatore neozelandese a Roma Peter Bennett.

L’ampia partecipazione alla manifestazione ha dimostrato l’estremo interesse per il Made in Italy e le reali potenzialita’ di ulteriore crescita dell’interscambio commerciale e di eventuali investimenti diretti in loco italiani.

VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND OF THE DEPUTY FOREIGN MINISTER, THE ON. MARGHERITA BONIVER (25-30 NOVEMBER 2002)

The Hon. Margherita Boniver visited New Zealand from 25 to 30 November 2002.
During her stay in Wellington she met with the Governor General, Dame Silvia Cartwright, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Phil Goff and the Minister of Energy, Fisheries, Research, Science and Technology, Pete Hodgson.
During the Reception held in the Residence of the Ambassador of Italy the Italian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Boniver, met with representatives of the local Italian community and with business exponents  and the Minister appointed for the coordination of the America’s Cup, Mallard.
The Hon. Boniver spent time with Minister Hodgson talking mainly on questions relating to bilateral trade.
Her agenda with Minister Goff included bilateral points, a close look at regional questions and multilateral issues. Along with the Minister of Foreign Affairs she was also able to meet with the Director of “Creative New Zealand”.
During her subsequent visit to Auckland, after having officially opened an exhibition on scientific cooperation in Antarctica mounted by ENEA and on display at the Maritime Museum and on board the Vespucci, she was guest aboard the Navy Training Ship at a dinner in her honour at which the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Phil Goff, took part. Whilst still in Auckland she met with executives and Team Prada when visiting their base.

VISITA IN NUOVA ZELANDA DEL SOTTOSEGRETARIO AGLI ESTERI, ON. MARGHERITA BONIVER (25-30 NOVEMBRE 2002)

L'On. Margherita Boniver ha effettuato una visita in Nuova Zelanda dal 25 al 30 novembre scorsi.
Durante la sua permanenza a Wellington e' stata ricevuta dal Governatore Generale Silvia Cartwright e ha avuto colloqui con il Ministro degli Esteri Phil Goff ed il Ministro aggiunto per gli Affari Esteri Pete Hodgson.
Nel corso del Ricevimento nella Residenza dell'Ambasciatore d'Italia ha incontrato i rappresentanti della locale collettivita' italiana nonche' esponenti dell'economia ed il Ministro delegato al coordinamento per l'America Cup, Mallard.
Con il Ministro Goff l'agenda comprendeva punti bilaterali, la disamina di questioni regionali nonche' tematiche multilaterali. Assieme al Ministro degli Esteri l'On. ha avuto modo di incontrare il responsabile di "Creative New Zealand".
Con il Ministro Hodgson l'On. Boniver si e' intrattenuta principalmente su temi relativi all'interscambio commerciale.
Durante la successiva visita ad Auckland, dopo aver inaugurato una esposizione sulla cooperazione scientifica in Antartide curata dall'ENEA e ubicata presso il Maritime Museum e a bordo della Vespucci, e' stata ospitata sulla Nave Scuola della Marina ad un pranzo d'onore al quale ha partecipato il Ministro degli Esteri Phil Goff. Sempre in Auckland ha incontrato dirigenti e Team sportivo Prada visitandone le installazioni.

20 October 2002: ARRIVAL IN NEW ZEALAND OF THE HISTORIC ITALIAN NAVY sail ship "Amerigo Vespucci"

The historical Italian Navy sail ship "Amerigo Vespucci" arrived at Auckland Harbour on 20 October 2002 after a journey via the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans which started out last May from Livorno, the Medici port in Tuscany and the headquarters of the Naval Academy.

The presence of the "Vespucci" in New Zealand, intended to last up to next March with several calls on various ports and a visit to Wellington the last week of January - along with missions from the Italian Government and Navy - is a token of the friendship and the excellent relations between the two countries in the sporting atmosphere of the Louis Vuitton and America Cups.

The long journey of the "Amerigo Vespucci" - as well as the presence of our teams in the regattas - is a new step towards even closer relations between the two countries.

20 ottobre 2002: ARRIVO IN NUOVA ZELANDA DEL VELIERO DELLA MARINA MILITARE ITALIANA "Amerigo Vespucci"

Lo storico veliero della Marina Militare italiana "Amerigo Vespucci" e’ giunto al Porto di Auckland lo scorso 20 ottobre 2002 dopo un viaggio attraverso l'Oceano Pacifico iniziato lo scorso maggio da Livorno, il porto Medici in Toscana e Quartiere Generale dell'Accademia Navale.

La presenza della "Vespucci" in Nuova Zelanda, che si protrarra' fino al marzo 2003 con diverse visite in vari porti ed una visita a Wellington l'ultima settimana di gennaio - e che sara' accompagnata da missioni da parte del Governo italiano e della Marina Militare italiana - e' un segno dell'amicizia e delle eccellenti relazioni tra i due Paesi nell'atmosfera sportiva delle Coppe Louis Vuitton e America.

Il lungo viaggio dell'"Amerigo Vespucci" - cosi' come la presenza dei nostri teams nelle regate - e' un nuovo gradino verso ancora piu' stretti rapporti tra i due paesi.

The Italian Film Festival (year 2002)

The Italian Film Festival, now in its seventh edition, confirms the strong interest in Italy and Italian culture that exists in New Zealand. The festival, organised by Forster Lambert Film Distribution Ltd, is currently being staged thanks also to the support of the Embassy of Italy in Wellington.

This year the Festival offers a selection of new but also classic films of Italian cinema.

Il Festival del cinema italiano (anno 2002)

Il Festival del cinema italiano, giunto ormai alla settima edizione, conferma il forte interesse in Nuova Zelanda nei confronti dell'Italia e della sua cultura. La manifestazione, curata dalla Forster Lambert Film Distribution Ltd, e' realizzata grazie anche al sostegno dell'Ambasciata d'Italia in Wellington.

ATTENDANCE AT THE WORLD FOOD SUMMIT (10-13 JUNE 2002): VISIT IN ITALY OF THE NEW ZEALAND MINISTER OF COMMERCE, HON. JIM SUTTON

The New Zealand Minister of Commerce, Jim Sutton, visited Italy on 10-13 June 2002, on the occasion of the World Food Summit in Rome.
During his stay in Italy, the Minister met the italian Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Alemanno.
On the occasion of the Food Summit, also, a delegation from the Cook Islands, one from the Kiribati Government, one of the Samoan Government and one of the Tongan Government visited Italy and took part in the Summit meetings.

PARTECIPAZIONE VERTICE MONDIALE ALIMENTAZIONE (GIUGNO 10-13 GIUGNO 2002):VISITA IN ITALIA DEL MINISTRO DEL COMMERCIO NEOZELANDESE, HON. JIM SUTTON

Il Ministro del Commercio neozelandese ha visitato l’Italia dal 10 al 13 giugno 2002, in occasione del Vertice Mondiale dell'Alimentazione di Roma.
Durante la sua permanenza ha incontrato il Ministro dell'Agricoltura Alemanno.
In occasione del vertice hanno partecipato una Delegazione delle Isole Cook, una del Governo di Kiribati, una di Samoa e una di Tonga.

VISIT IN ITALY OF THE NEW ZEALAND MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND TRADE, HON. PHIL GOFF (ROME, 2-3 MAY 2002).

The New Zealand Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Phil Goff, had a 2-days visit in Italy on the 2 and 3 of May .
This visit followed the EU/NZ Presidency consultation and was inserted into a six-nation visit, which comprised Bosnia, Croatia, Spain, Poland and Czech Republic.
In Italy the Minister met several key government officials, among whom the Deputy Minister For the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Margherita Boniver.
The meetings have been focused on some bilateral question and especially on the America’s Cup.

VISITA IN ITALIA DEL MINISTRO DEGLI ESTERI NEOZELANDESE, HON.PHIL GOFF (ROMA, 2-3 MAGGIO 2002)

Il Ministro neozelandese per gli Affari Esteri, e’ stato in visita in Italia, il 2 e 3 Maggio.
Tale visita si e’ inserita in una programma che ha visto il Ministro prima a Madrid, per le consultazioni biennali fra Nuova Zelanda ed Unione Europea, di cui allora la Spagna deteneva la Presidenza, e poi in alcuni Paesi europei: Bosnia, Croazia, Italia Polonia e Repubblica Ceca
Durante la permanenza a Roma Goff ha incontrato diverse Autorita’ tra le quali il Sottosegretario agli Esteri Margherita Boniver.
Argomenti degli incontri italiani sono state diverse tematiche di carattere bilaterale e di comune interesse, nonche’ la futura America’s Cup.
