VISIT TO ITALY OF HON. PETE HODGSON, MINISTER OF FISHERIES, ENERGY, TECHNOLOGY, INDUSTRY, SCIENCE & RESEARCH, REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND ASSOCIATED FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISTER.

Hon. Jim Sutton went to Italy to preside over FAO Conference. On 3 December he met with Hon. Giovanni Alemanno.

Hon. Pete Hodgson took part in the United Nations Conference on climatic change.

Il Ministro Jim Sutton si e' recato in Italia per presiedere la Conferenza Fao.
Il 3 dicembre ha incontrato l'On. Ministro Giovanni Alemanno.

Il Min. Pete Hodgson ha partecipato alla conferenza delle Nazioni Unite sul Cambiamento Climatico.

6-9 December 2003: VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND OF DR. FEDERICO CASTELLUCCI

From 6 to 9 December 2003, Dr Federico Castellucci, Director-General of Federvini (Italian Wine Federation) and Director-General of the International Organization of Vine and Wine as from 1 January 2004, arrived in New Zealand on an informal visit.

He had meetings both in Auckland and Wellington with the main New Zealand wine organizations.

The occasion offered the opportunity for an overview of the country’s wine industry and for meetings with the competent local bodies.

The Ambassador of Italy hosted a buffet dinner for this occasion with the attendance of way above 100 guests including wine producers, local bodies, the Diplomatic corps, New Zealand Chambers of Commerce, sommeliers, experts and journalists in the field, importers and distributors, restaurant operators, the Italian community,

6-9 dicembre 2003: VISITA IN NUOVA ZELANDA DR. FEDERICO CASTELLUCCI

Dal 6 al 9 dicembre 2003, il Dr. Federico Castellucci, Direttore Generale della Federvini e – dal 1 gennaio 2004 – Direttore Generale dell’Organizzazione Internazionale della Vigna e del Vino, e’ venuto in Nuova Zelanda per una visita informale.

Ha avuto incontri sia ad Auckland che a Wellington con le principali organizzazioni neozelandesi del settore vinicolo.
L’occasione e’ stata propizia per una panoramica del settore vinicolo del paese e per colloqui con le competenti istituzioni locali.

L’Ambasciatore d’Italia ha offerto per l’occasione una cena buffet, alla quale hanno partecipato ben oltre 100 invitati ivi inclusi produttori vinicoli, istituzioni locali, Corpo Diplomatico, Camere di Commercio neozelandesi, sommeliers, esperti e giornalisti del settore, importatori e distributori, ristoratori, comunita’ italiana.

17-21 NOVEMBER 2003: VISIT IN NEW ZEALAND of Dr. LORANDINI, EXPORT AREA MANAGER OF DeLonghi

Dr. Nicola Lorandini, export area manager of De Longhi, paid a visit to New Zealand from 17th to 21st of November.
This visit was an opportunity for a meeting with the top management of the Embassy Theatre Trust and with the Deputy Mayor of Wellington City: at which they further discussed about a possible sponsorship for the World Premiere of the third part of "Lord of the Rings", that will be held in that cinematografic theatre.

DeLonghi is one of the most popular Success Stories in New Zealand: in fact it provides with a wide product range from air conditioning to heating, both in domestic and in industrial sector. Its turnover increased of 65% during last year.

17-21 NOVEMBRE 2003: VISITA IN NUOVA ZELANDA DEL Dr. LORANDINI, EXPORT AREA MANAGER SOCIETA' DeLonghi

Dal 17 al 21 novembre 2003, l'export area manager della Societa' DeLonghi, Dr. Nicola Lorandini, ha effettuato una visita in Nuova Zelanda. E' stata questa l'occasione per un incontro con i vertici dell'Embassy Theatre Trust ed il Vice Sindaco della citta' di Wellington: sono state riavviate le trattative per una possibile sponsorizzazione in occasione della World Premiere del terzo episodio di "Lord of the Rings" che si terra' nella suddetta sala cinematografica.

La DeLonghi rappresenta in Nuova Zelanda una delle storie di successo: e’ presente infatti con una vasta offerta di prodotti, che vanno dall’aria condizionata al riscaldamento, sia nel settore domestico che in quello industriale. L’incremento del fatturato negli ultimi 12 mesi e’ stato del 65%.

VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND OF DR MATTEO PICARIELLO, DIRECTOR OF THE Italian Trade Commission SYDNEY OFFICE (21/22 October 2003)

The new Director of the Italian Trade Commission Office competent for New Zealand, Dr Matteo Picariello, made a brief visit to Wellington - and Auckland - for a first meeting the purpose of which was to evaluate possible future initiatives in the economic-commercial sector (in the context of a trend of continuing growth for Italian exports, with an increase, on an annual basis to June 2003, of around 1,8%) and for the re-opening of the Auckland Office of Italian Trade Commission, closed for about a year.

With respect to the organisation of promotional events in New Zealand certain areas of potential interest have been identified, both on the basis of experience gained by the Embassy taking into account the studies conducted by Italian Trade Commission itself. In particular, agreement was reached on the usefulness of focusing on certain sectors for 2004 such as: jewellery, engineering and mechanical instruments, shipbuilding, design and fashion, food technology (in particular bottling).

In light of the recent freeing up of New Zealand regulations that now allows "prosciutto di Parma" to be imported into New Zealand, special mention should be made of the possibility of involving the Consorzio Prosciutto di Parma - Parma Ham Consortium - in a promotional event.

In order to make the most of Dr Picariello's visit - even if only brief - we organised a working luncheon attended by the President of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, the Deputy Secretary General of the Industry and Regional Development Division of the Ministry for Economic Development (MED), an Area Manager of New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (National organisation for commercial and economic promotion) and exponents from the world of entrepreneurs.

VISITA IN NUOVA ZELANDA DEL CAPO DELL’UFFICIO ICE DI SYDNEY, DOTT. MATTEO PICARIELLO (21/22 ottobre 2003).

il nuovo Direttore dell’Ufficio ICE competente per la Nuova Zelanda Dott. Matteo Picariello ha effettuato una breve visita a Wellington - e Auckland - per un primo incontro finalizzato alla valutazione di possibili iniziative future nel settore economico-commerciale (nel contesto di un trend di costante crescita per le esportazioni italiane, con un incremento, su base annuale a giugno 2003, di circa l’8%) e alla riapertura dell’antenna ICE a Auckland congelata da circa un anno.

Sul versante della organizzazione di manifestazioni promozionali in Nuova Zelanda sono state individuate alcune aree di potenziale interesse, sia sulla base dell’esperienza raccolta dall’Ambasciata sia tenuto conto di studi effettuati dall’ICE stesso. In particolare si e’ concordato sulla opportunita’ di concentrarsi per il 2004 su alcuni settori quali: gioielleria, motoristica e meccanica strumentale, cantieristica navale, design e moda, tecnologie dell’alimentazione (in particolare imbottigliamento).

Menzione a parte merita la possibilita’ di coinvolgere il Consorzio Prosciutto di Parma, data la recente liberalizzazione dell’importazione in Nuova Zelanda del “prosciutto di Parma”, in una manifestazione promozionale.

Per massimizzare la fruttuosa, se pur breve,  missione del Dott. Picariello in Nuova Zelanda, abbiamo organizzato una colazione di lavoro a cui hanno preso parte il Presidente della Camera di Commercio di Wellington, il Vice Segretario Generale della Divisione Industria e Sviluppo Regionale del MED (Ministero per lo Sviluppo Economico), un Direttore d’Area di New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (l’Ente nazionale per la promozione commerciale ed economica) nonche’ esponenti del mondo imprenditoriale.

STOCCOLMA 19 September 2003: BILATERAL MEETING BETWEEN ITALIAN MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS HON. FRANCO FRATTINI AND NEW ZEALAND MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS HON. PHIL GOFF AND TROIKA ON NEW ZEALAND

The relations between the EU and New Zealand were at the centre of a meeting of the European Troika, held last 19 September in Stockholm, under the presidency of the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Franco Frattini. New Zealand was represented by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Phil Goff. According to presidency sources, the meeting was very worthwhile: the relations between the EU and New Zealand were examined extensively, with special reference to the visa regime and to collaboration between the two countries. The dialogue then went on to discuss topics of the intergovernmental Conference (Igc): Minister Frattini illustrated Italy’s position as the Igc discussions are about to commence on 4 October in Rome. European Agricultural policy and EU strategy for security were both discussed, the latter on the basis of an intervention by Mr. Solana, author of a report on which the EU is working. International issues were also the topic of discussion: the Pacific, the Middle East, Iraq, the strategy to combat terrorism. The closing observation was that relations are excellent, further reinforced by today’s talks. Prior to the troika, Mr. Frattini had a bilateral meeting with his New Zealand counterpart. The two countries reconfirmed that relations between the two are very good and they undertook to further strengthen these in the sectors of the economy, culture and sport.

STOCCOLMA 19 settembre 2003: INCONTRO BILATERALE MINISTRO DEGLI ESTERI ITALIANO FRANCO FRATTINI E MINISTRO DEGLI ESTERI NEOZELANDESE PHIL GOFF E TROIKA SU NUOVA ZELANDA

I rapporti tra la Ue e la Nuova Zelanda sono stati al centro di un incontro della Troika europea, tenuta lo scorso 19 settembre a Stoccolma, sotto la presidenza del Ministro degli Esteri italiano Franco Frattini. La Nuova Zelanda era rappresentata dal ministro degli esteri Phil Goff.
Secondi fonti della Presidenza, la riunione e' stata molto proficua: le relazioni tra la Ue e la Nuova Zelanda sono state esaminate a largo raggio, con riferimento in particolare al regime dei visti e della collaborazione tra le due parti. Il dialogo e' poi proseguito sui temi della Conferenza intergovernativa (Cig): il ministro Frattini ha illustrato la posizione italiana in vista dell'avvio dei lavori della Cig, il 4 ottobre a Roma. La politica agricola europea e la strategia Ue per la sicurezza sono state ugualmente affrontate, quest'ultima sulla base di un intervento di Solana, autore di un rapporto su cui la Ue sta lavorando. Non sono mancate le questioni internazionali: la zona del Pacifico, il Medio Oriente, l'Iraq, la strategia contro il terrorismo. La constatazione conclusiva e' stata che i rapporti sono ottimi, usciti ulteriormente rafforzati dai colloqui di oggi. Prima della troika, Frattini ha avuto un incontro bilaterale con il collega della Nuova Zelanda. I due paesi hanno ribadito che le relazioni sono molto buone e si sono impegnati a rafforzarle ulteriormente nei settori dell'economia, della cultura e dello sport.

The Italian Film Festival (year 2003)

The Italian Film Festival, now in its eight edition, confirms the strong interest in Italy and Italian culture that exists in New Zealand. The festival, organised by Forster Lambert Film Distribution Ltd, is currently being staged thanks also to the support of the Embassy of Italy in Wellington.

This year the Festival offers a selection of new films of Italian cinema.

Il Festival del cinema italiano (anno 2003)

Il Festival del cinema italiano, giunto ormai alla ottava edizione, conferma il forte interesse in Nuova Zelanda nei confronti dell'Italia e della sua cultura. La manifestazione, curata dalla Forster Lambert Film Distribution Ltd, e' realizzata grazie anche al sostegno dell'Ambasciata d'Italia in Wellington.

JANUARY 2003: VISIT TO WELLINGTON OF THE ITALIAN NAVY SAILING VESSEL "AMERIGO VESPUCCI" AND CONTESTUAL VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND OF THE ITALIAN NAVY CHIEF OF STAFF, ADMIRAL MARCELLO DE DONNO

The Italian Navy Sailing Vessel "Amerigo Vespucci", berthed in Auckland since last October, visited the city of Wellington from the 26th of January to the 3rd of February 2003. It was an important tribute to the Capital and its Institutions reinforced by the contextual visit to New Zealand of the Italian Navy Chief of Staff, Admiral Marcello De Donno, in the framework of the excellent relations between the two Countries.

The Ambassador of Italy Roberto Palmieri hosted a Garden Party to the Residence on 30 January.

GENNAIO 2003: VISITA A WELLINGTON DELLA NAVE "AMERIGO VESPUCCI" E CONTESTUALE VISITA IN NUOVA ZELANDA DELL'AMMIRAGLIO MARCELLO DE DONNO

La Nave "Amerigo Vespucci", ormeggiata ad Auckland dallo scorso ottobre, ha visitato Wellington dal 26 gennaio al 3 febbraio 2003. E’ stato un importante contributo alla Capitale neozelandese ed alle sue Istituzioni, rinforzato dalla contestuale visita in Nuova Zelanda dell'Ammiraglio Marcello De Donno, in un contesto di eccellenti relazioni tra i due Paesi.

L'Ambasciatore d'Italia Roberto Palmieri ha ospitato un Garden Party presso la sua Residenza il 30 gennaio.
